In the listening room, the Cayin 88T has a big beautiful open sound that could best be described as glorious. Or perhaps striking is a more appropriate description. Ah, I've got it. Call it strikingly glorious. Yeah, that's it. Nope, that's not quite right either. The 88T sounds impressive and the characterization is certainly accurate. But it doesn't hint at the amazing sense of transparency that projects forth from the 88T. Of course that big and open sound is largely due to that marvelous degree of transparency.
It doesn't require extended listening or acclimation in order to unearth the magical qualities of this amplifier. It's immediately obvious. It's different, it's musical as hell and it's flat-out enjoyable. Within minutes of hearing it, most listeners will likely have already come to the same summation. You won't have to think about it.- John Potis

Details: Great, GREAT Tube Amplifier!
Before I ordered this amp I read a lot of reviews, they were all very positive, but I didnt expect it was That good!Delivery was very fast and smooth, placed inside two boxes with plastic and styrofoam, it was delivered without a scratch! It is built like a tank, very sturdy and heavy. You almost need a crane to lift it into place (slightly exeggerated ;-)) Then the sound, it took a couple of hours to burn in, but then I loved every second of it.Basses go deep end fast, also very good high without sounding edgy. The placement and spaciousness are marvellous.I listened to the A88t with Jungson Bd1 speakers and its a great match :) |

Details: super sweet
i think half the success of this amplifier is due to it being so quiet. In triode mode, it is super sweet, it layers the sound beautifully and the sweetness of the timbres emerge. there is plenty of space between voices and instruments. i can hear a voice being composed of so many sub components with this amplifier, It is less sweet in ultralinear but more punchy, but find myself going back to the sweetness of the triode mode which has dynamism and sting when the music contains it. highly recommended. |

Details: Cayin A-88T the Best
The Cayin A-88T amp was delivered to me on Saturday. This is my first tube amp and it replaced a Krell KAV 300i. I am driving the Dynaudio Audience 82s with this amp.
I am not qualified to write a review as I feel I have a long way to go before that. Also, I have not heard many amps in this price range to make a fair judgement.
Nevertheless, I can say this. The sound is far richer and more pleasant than my earlier amp (Krell KAv 300i). Instruments/voices seem to have a purer, probably more realistic, tone with more body and decay. The emotion and nuance of a voice/instrument are vividly captured. Notes have more melody and harmonic richness. There also seems to be much more detail not only in the treble but also in the mids. The treble is more extended but definietly sweeter.
I was concerned initially about the bass and loudness as the Dyn\'s are not particularly efficient. My room is large also. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the amp drove the speakers quite well and to room-filling volumes at the 10\'0clock positon even in the triode mode (22W RMS). Bass was clean though heavy-bass soundtracks like Gladiator did have problems. The Krell was definitely better in this department in terms of control. So there is a trade-off here but I am happy to live with it.
Soundstage width and height is good. Depth is OK and I think it could have a more layered sound. Imaging is very good.
Overall, this is a clean, harmonically rich and beautiful sounding (and looking) amp compared to the dry sound I have heard from SS amps. Build quality is also excellent though I have not looked inside.
I had heard the Cayin T-30s earlier with the Dyn 52SEs in my room. This is also a very good amp with the midrange probably better than the 88Ts. But my room was too large for the amp/speakers so I returned it. |
