I am no audiophile so cannot give you the spiel about greater depth of bass etc. However they have allowed me to hear things in my music that I have never picked up before because all the background distractions are removed. Fantastic. On the plane or anywhere else you hear only your music and in great detail. The only downside I have is that you cannot hear people and when you are deep into your tunes, relaxed and with your eyes closed the ticket inspector on your early morning train tapping you on your shoulder asking to see your ticket can be the fright of your life!!
