Excellent performance comes from high integration. The G&W TW-J1 solid state headphone amplifier / pre-amp is a design utilizing fully separate components.
No linear integrated circuits have been used for the analog stages.
The product is designed to provide a high level of performance and excellent sound quality.
As a result, the G&W TW-J1 has an unbelievable frequency response as high as 1090 KHz (-3dB), which leads to very crisp sound, high resolution as well as tremendous dynamic range. Clearly this frequency response is significantly wider than the human hearing range, but this does give the amplifier a much cleaner sound at high frequencies.
Double-bridge commutating power supply and direct current servo system reduce and filter most possible noise sources. Highest quality US manufactured regulator devices 7815, 7915 are used offering high performance and low noise.
G&W’s latest state-of-art amplification design: Toshiba 2SK30 MOSFETs and Motorola 2N4403 transistors are used for the input stages providing - very low noise, high input impedance, stable performance, high gain, and excellent linearity.
Hitachi 2SB647 & 2SD66 transistors in a push-and-pull type output configuration provide rich midrange, high quality and low distortion.
The sound is smooth and detailed combining impressive low frequency performance with effortless dynamics and sense of space.
Whether you use inexpensive mini headphones or a pair of top of the range Sennheisers this amp will bring out the best possible performance. This amp also functions as a very fine pre-amplifier where the considerable signal-to-noise-ratio means it is totally quiet allowing for the minutest of details to be resolved.

Well, what can I say. The unit looks like it cost 3 or 4 times the real price. The performance with a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-831 is excellent with a clear and powerfull sound. The soundstage is around the head of the listener not in the head, with a agile and articulated bass, transparent midrange and extended and brilliant highs. A very good product headphone preamp and at a amazing price. |
