Details: Excellent entry level valve amp
I've had one of these amps for about five years now. I've had quite a few half decent quality transistor amps over the years (around the £400 mark types - well reviewed by the likes of HiFi Choice) but this thing is in a different league.
Used in combination with fairly 'sensitive' speakers (I have TDL Studio 1s) it goes remarkably loud - easily enough for a 17ft x 17ft room. Excellent bass control and smooth mid band. And apparently the 'ultra highs' are good too, or so my children tell me - my duff old ears don't go much beyond 14 KHz these days! On the more normal highs front, I'm an ex-drummer (which might explain the hearing issues) and am always amazed how close to the sound of real cymbals this thing gets. That's my yardstick for the top end.
I've just had it serviced for the first time and new posh valves (Groove Tubes) put in - sounds even better now than when new. But said service and valves cost more than Ornec charge for a new one (ignoring p&p charges). Total and utter bargain! |

Details: About MEIXING MINGDA MC 34 A

Details: Meixing Ming Da MC-34A a Duck
This is the worst of the average Ming Da Tube Amps we have reviewed, the Bias setting is incorrect and if you are not conversant with setting/changing them you will either blow the unit or yourself, the internal wiring is sub standard and the sound produced is crass and distorted, on the plus side the external appearance is pleasing but what good is that when the unit itself is such duck, dont waste your money, buy any cheap solid state for less then half and enjoy the music, buy it you can rectify the many faults it has, but when you add up the additional cost to replace those awful caps for Munsdorf or H M Caps, re set the bias, you may as well buy a proper US made unit. |
